LASIK, or Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, is commonly referred to as laser eye surgery, laser vision correction or vision correction surgery. It is a process where a laser is used to reshape the eye’s cornea to improve visual acuity. Over 30 million procedures have been performed since it the first procedures started in 1980s, with patient satisfaction increasing from 92 to 98 percent over that time. In 2002 LASIK became the most common, elective procedure in the USA. The process itself is relatively simple and largely pain-free:
1. SUITABILITY CONSULTATION:
In the initial consultation, at any of our clinics, the optometrist will discuss the patient’s ocular history, general health, age, occupation, and hobbies in order to ascertain suitability for LASIK surgery.
This is the big day when your life will change. Family members are welcomed and encouraged to accompany patients during preoperative and postoperative consultations. After completing administration requirements, the patient will be taken to the preoperative area to be prepared for treatment.
“It was life-changing, pain-free and easy. I was worried for no good reason, as the procedure took minutes; I sat up and the world was clear again. The next day, signs were clearer, lights were sharper and I had a whole new world of detail that I didn’t even have with contacts. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner.”
