See Clearly. Feel Confident. Care That Goes the Extra Mile

Refractive Lens Replacement, often called Intraocular Lens (IOL) Replacement, is a highly advanced outpatient eye procedure that involves removing your eye’s natural lens and replacing it with a clear, artificial one. This life-enhancing treatment corrects a range of refractive vision issues—including near-sightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia, and astigmatism—allowing many patients to reduce or completely eliminate their dependence on glasses or contact lenses.

At our clinic, laser eye surgery top-up is included if needed post-procedure, giving you peace of mind that we’ll go the extra mile to ensure the best possible visual outcome.

Who is IOL Replacement Suitable For?

IOL lens replacement surgery can be ideal for individuals who:

  • Are experiencing presbyopia (age-related difficulty seeing up close).
  • Have been told they’re not suitable for LASIK or PRK.
  • Want a long-term alternative to glasses or contact lenses.

Your suitability will depend on several individual factors including your eye health, lifestyle, and general wellbeing. Our expert team will conduct a comprehensive eye assessment to create a personalised treatment plan for you.

Types of Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)

We offer a full range of premium IOLs, carefully selected to suit your lifestyle and visual goals:

  • Monofocal IOLs – Clear vision at one distance (typically far, or for blended vision – far and close).
  • Multifocal IOLs – Correction for near, intermediate, and distance vision.
  • Toric IOLs – Designed for patients with astigmatism, correcting both distance and shape-related refractive errors.

Your consultant surgeon will recommend the most suitable lens type during your free assessment, based on advanced diagnostics and eye measurements.

What to Expect During the Procedure

  • Procedure Time: Around 20 minutes per eye, followed by 20 to 30 minutes recovery on-site.
  • Anaesthesia: Simple numbing eye drop, no general anaesthetic required.
  • Technique: A tiny self-healing incision is made. Your natural lens is gently removed using ultrasound, then replaced with your chosen synthetic IOL.

Post-Operative Recovery and Care

  • Return to normal activities: Typically 1–3 days after surgery.
  • Vision improvement: Noticeable within 48 hours, with full visual clarity stabilising over 6–8 weeks.

Exceptional aftercare:

  • At least 4 follow-up appointments included within the first 6 months.
  • Laser vision tune-up included if required for optimal results.
  • Dedicated aftercare team always available for your reassurance.

We’re committed to your vision journey—before, during, and long after surgery.

How Long Do Lens Implants Last?

IOL implants are designed to last a lifetime. They do not degrade, and replacement is not typically needed. In some cases, a follow-up laser procedure (like YAG capsulotomy) may be performed months or years later to clear minor cloudiness that can develop behind the implant.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is lens replacement surgery painful?
No, thanks to numbing drops, the procedure is pain-free.

Will I feel the new lens in my eye?
Not at all. The lens is placed inside the eye and is not detectable.

How soon can I return to work?
Most patients are back at work within 3 days, depending on their role.

Can I have this surgery if I’ve had laser eye surgery before?
Yes, prior LASIK or PRK does not prevent you from undergoing lens replacement.

Will I notice immediate improvement in vision?
Most patients see significant improvement within 48 hours, with continued progress over a few weeks.

Is there an age limit for lens replacement?
There’s no upper age limit. It’s especially effective for individuals over 40 or those with developing cataracts.

Can I have lens surgery if I already have cataracts?
Absolutely. Lens replacement surgery is also used to treat cataracts, removing the cloudy lens and restoring sharp vision.

When can I drive again?
Usually within a few days, once your optometrist confirms your vision meets legal driving standards.

Can I watch TV after surgery?
Yes, within a few hours of surgery, although we recommend resting your eyes for the first day.

Is it safe to shower after surgery?
Yes, but avoid getting water or soap in your eyes for at least one week.

Can I resume exercise?
Light activity can resume after a week. Strenuous workouts, swimming, or heavy lifting should be avoided for 4 weeks.
