Surgery Checklist
The Day Before
- Clear your day, no work, no appointments, no screen time. This is your day to relax, stay calm, and focus on recovery.
- Let your workplace know you’ll need 1–2 days off (PRK may need longer).
- Organise transport for surgery and your first post-op visit:
- LASIK, SMILE®, Blended Vision: Need a driver the next morning, to attend your first post-op
- PRK: Need a driver for the first post-op.
- Arrange childcare or home help, your eyes will need rest.
Morning of Surgery
- Timing: You’ll be given a time for consent and surgery, but this may shift slightly.
- Contact lenses:
- Stop soft lenses 48 hrs prior
- Stop hard lenses 4–6 weeks prior (check with us if unsure)
- Dress comfortably — bring a warm layer.
- No makeup, perfume, or hair products.
- Hydrate well in the days before.
- Watch your pre-surgery video and let us know if you’re feeling anxious — we’re here for you.
Meeting the Surgeon
Final eye check and chat about your procedure, recovery, and any questions.
Between Appointments
- You may have time for a light lunch, we recommend it.
- Return 30 mins before your procedure.
- Your support person must be available to take you home.
In Clinic: Pre-Op & Surgery
- Our team will guide you through final prep and review your aftercare plan.
- Anaesthetic drops will be applied (a brief sting is normal).
- In theatre, your eyelid will be gently held open, it’s painless, and you won’t feel the need to blink.
- The other eye will be covered; slight pressure is normal but there’s no pain.
After Surgery
- Rest in our aftercare room while your surgeon checks your eyes.
- Once cleared, you’ll head home with your support person.
- Rest with eyes closed as much as possible for the rest of the day.
